Exhibition at MUba, Tourcoing, 28 April - 2 October 2022
The Tourcoing-born painter Eugène Leroy (1910-2000) is a deeply singular artist whose work has marked the 20th century. Maintaining a powerful relationship with the material without ever excluding the subject represented, Leroy never ceased to revisit traditional pictorial genres, such as the nude and the self-portrait, while reinventing the viewer's perception.
This exhibition catalogue marks a new stage in the recognition of the artist by revealing the history of the exceptional donation made in 2009 by his sons to the MUba. Through a rich collection of paintings, drawings, engravings, sculptures and works from his personal collection that mark out his career from the 1930s to 2000, it allows us to discover the artistic path and the multiple facets of an extraordinary artist.
