Exhibition at the Domaine Départemental de Chamarande (Essonne), 26 September - 09 January 2022
For nearly fifty years, Michel Nedjar (1947-) has been evolving on the border between art brut and contemporary art. A surveyor of the imagined or imaginary worlds of singular creators, a collector of humbly fashioned objects, a creator himself, Michel Nedjar has forged many and varied links with the authors of art brut and their works.
In 1982, he founded the association L'Aracine and contributed to the collection of works that led to its becoming the first art brut museum in France. After the closure of the museum in 1995 and the donation of the collection to the Urban Community of Lille Metropole, Michel Nedjar has accompanied all the stages of the new life of Art Brut at the LaM in Villeneuve d'Ascq.
This exhibition catalogue highlights Michel Nedjar's plural work and his switch in the mid-2000s between a first dark and chthonic period and a second luminous and solar period.
