Exhibition at the Petit Palais, Paris, 15 March - 17 July 2016
George Desvallières (1861-1950) was an independent painter, curious about all forms of creation. In his career, there is first Paris and its art exhibitions, London and its nightlife, the adventure of the Salon d'automne and the horror of the Great War, then the revival with the foundation of the Ateliers d'art sacré. A disciple of Gustave Moreau and supporter of Georges Rouault, another great figure of French expressionism, George Desvallières attained the status of apostle of Christian art in the interwar period.
This exhibition catalogue pays tribute to this singular artist, from his intimate portraits to his monumental decors.
