Exhibition at the Galerie Jacques de Vos, Paris, 26 October - 30 December 2023
The sculpture of Jean Lambert-Rucki (1888-1967) freely interprets religious themes in a personal style described by Joseph Pichard in L'art sacré moderne (1953) as "naïve and tender", "with summary lines, seeking a kind of moving candour", "the influence of the primitives everywhere perceptible". Through her works, the French artist of Polish origin seeks to express the unease of her time in the face of the absence of spirituality.
In this exhibition catalogue, 42 sculptures, panels, drawings and watercolours - including ten on loan from the Polish museum Villa La Fleur - illustrate the major role played by Lambert-Rucki in the reform of Sacred Art in the twentieth century.
This exhibition is part of an initiative launched almost 50 years ago by Jacques De Vos to gain recognition for the work of Jean Lambert-Rucki.
