Exhibition at the Centre Pompidou, Paris, 27 March - 1 July 2024
Constantin Brancusi (1876-1957), a Romanian sculptor who belonged to the School of Paris, revolutionised the concept of art as dominated by the "beautiful ideal" and introduced abstraction into sculpture in order to achieve a pure, perfect form imbued with a mysterious poetry.
This catalogue of the largest retrospective devoted to Brancusi brings together a collection of almost 400 works - sculptures, photographs, drawings, films, archives, tools and studio furniture. Punctuated by quotations from the artist, it highlights the protean aspects of his work thanks to contributions from 30 internationally renowned specialists.
The book has been designed as a fun way to enter his world through a hundred or so key words, from the names of his models and friends to his sources of inspiration, materials and concepts.
