Exhibition at the Mucem, Marseilles, 19 May - 18 October 2021
A key artist of the late 20th and early 21st centuries, Jeff Koons (1955-) draws his inspiration from everyday life, from banal, familiar objects, often from American culture. This interest in everyday objects makes the encounter between the artist and the Mucem collection a perfect playground. Thanks to the exceptional loan of 20 works from the Pinault Collection, this exhibition catalogue offers a real immersion in the artist's work, marked out by his key works, sculptures (such as Balloon Dog, 1994-2000 or Lobster, 2007-2012), and paintings (such as Backyard, 2002, or Dutch Couple, 2007).
Each of the 200 works chosen is linked to a set of objects held by the museum to initiate a conversation, sometimes formal, sometimes symbolic or poetic, between Jeff Koons' major pieces and the popular art collections.
