Exhibition at the Cabinet des Livres of the Musée Condé, Château de Chantilly, 7 September 2021 - 30 January 2022
Thanks to the will of its successive owners, from the 16th to the 18th century, the Chantilly estate was adorned with exotic, curious or rare mammals and birds, and its waterways, canals and moats were adorned with thousands of coloured carp.
Through the study of numerous archives, plans, literary testimonies and precious iconography, this book covers three hundred years of the formidable animal history of the Château de Chantilly, from the Constable Anne de Montmorency and his wife Madeleine de Savoie in the 16th century, to the Duke of Bourbon, the last representative of the Princes of Bourbon-Condé, in the 19th century.
