In less than twenty-five years, Roberta and Gerolamo Etro have assembled one of the largest private collections of terracotta works, from the Renaissance to the 20th century, from Alessandro Vittoria to Arturo Martini.
While there is no shortage of French artists - from Jean-Jacques Caffieri to Peter Anton von Verschaffelt - the most significant group is made up of Italian sculptors from the Baroque period: Antonio Raggi, Giusto Le Court, Filippo Parodi, Massimiliano Soldani Benzi, Giuseppe Sanmartino and many others. All the major regional schools - Rome, Venice, Genoa, Florence and Naples - and almost every theme and genre of plastic art are represented, from relief to tutto tondo (in the round), from allegory to portraiture, from sketch to work immediately destined for the market.
This book devoted to the Etro collection contains numerous reproductions of the works, as well as detailed notes and comparative photographs by a team of specialists.
