Exhibition at the Château de Versailles, 6 October 2018 - 3 February 2019

The palace of Versailles hasn't been used as a royal residence since October 6th, 1789, when King Louis XVI and his family were forced to leave it. Although heir of the d'Orléans, and having thus very few in common with the Versailles of the Ancien Régime, Louis-Philippe became interested in the palace since his accession to the throne in 1830. He decided to turn the former royal residence into a museum dedicated to "all the glories of France" and open to all, inaugurated in 1837. Louis-Philippe followed himself the transformations made by his architect Frédéric Nepveu.
Through 200 works, this exhibition catalogue offers a study of Louis-Philippe's taste, notably through the paintings he ordered himself, and a story of Versailles in the 19th century.
