Exhibition at MADD, Bordeaux, 7 July 2022 - 8 January 2023
Milan-born artist Nanda Vigo (1936-2020) has made a name for herself since the 1960s with her cross-disciplinary approach to art, architecture and design. An important figure in the Italian avant-garde art scene, she has always favoured experimentation and exploration.
Nanda Vigo has produced a considerable body of work and has always struggled with the categorisation of her identity as a woman, artist, designer and architect. The artist was able to establish herself and gain the respect of the greatest artists, including Otto Piene, Gio Ponti and Lucio Fontana, with whom she collaborated on several occasions. In 1971, she received the New York Award for Industrial Design for the Golden Gate lamp produced by Arredoluce.
Both an exhibition catalogue and a monograph, this book brings together archive images, articles and interviews with design specialists and art historians. It presents a wide range of the artist's works in glass, aluminium, moiroir and neon, the characteristic materials of his work, in particular his Cronotopo as well as several environments and installations, most of which are now demolished, reconstituted for the occasion.
