Exhibition at the Cité de l'architecture et du patrimoine, Paris, 13 November 2019 - 16 March 2020

Otto Wagner (1841-1918) was an urban planner, architect, designer, theorist and teacher, and one of the leading figures in European architecture at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, whose influence extended far beyond the borders of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. As a visionary, Wagner understood that historicism was in total contradiction with the political, economic and social dynamism of contemporary Austria. In response, he encouraged the creation of a rational architecture based on both innovative materials and construction methods. His stance contributed significantly to the founding of the Secession in 1897.

This exhibition catalogue brings together articles by the best European specialists on the architect and is richly illustrated with documents from Wagner's archives.
