French artist Simone Pheulpin (1941-) uses a very simple material for her work: strips of unbleached calico, a traditional raw cotton from the Vosges. Unrecognizable, this material is modified in its structure and nature by its shaping into a regular and dense pile of folds, maintained on the inside by a multiplicity of pins to the exclusion of any other process. The organic and mineral aspect of the works thus obtained reveals poetic spaces where the eye dreams.
