Exhibition at the Frick Madison, New York, 16 February - 9 July 2023
Collector and founder of The Vendome Press Alexis Gregory (1936-2020) bequeathed 28 of his works of art to the Frick Collection, including Limoges enamels, pastels by the Venetian painter Rosalba Carriera, and Saint-Porchaire dinnerware. This remarkable gift introduced new types of objects to the Frick: the ivory and rhinoceros horn works are the first of their kind to appear in the collection.
This catalogue, which accompanies the first exhibition of Alexis Gregory's gift to the Frick Collection, provides an exciting overview of the collection as a whole and its eclecticism. The book catalogues in detail each of the 28 works, many of which come from such prestigious owners as the French royal collections and the Rothschilds.
