Exhibition at the Fondation Beyeler, Riehen/Basel, January 31-May 16, 2021
and at the Arp Museum, Bahnhof Rolandseck, June 26-November 14, 2021
For the first time, the work of a great innovator of late-nineteenth-century sculpture encounters the one from a protagonist of twentieth-century abstract sculpture: Auguste Rodin (1840-1917) meets Hans (Jean) Arp (1886-1966). Both artists are characterized by their unique artistic innovations and the joy of experimentation; both strongly influenced their eras and have lost nothing of their topicality to this day.
This exhibition catalogue shows how both oeuvres have numerous artistic affinities and points of reference.
